Kadang²

Kadang², we tend to make silly mistakes.
Kadang², we hear, but we don't listen.
Kadang², when you want something so bad, you didn't realize the consequences that might arise.
Kadang², crying is the best medicine to mend a broken heart.

Sometimes, gerak hati tu tak semestinya benar.
Sometimes, diam adalah pintar.
Sometimes, fantasi disalah-anggap sebagai realiti.
Sometimes, pendapat tak semestinya mempengaruhi keputusan.

The next phase : Denial.

"What if..." haunts.

...what if things turned out differently?

Acceptance.
Is.
Hard.

But I believe everything happens for a reason.

Journey Part I

Journey to the Holy Land - Makkah & Madinah

I've been to many places.
Seen so many faces.
But in this journey, everything was different.

At first, I was anxious, afraid and overwhelmed with disbelief.
Will I ever be accepted to enter HIS house?
Or even step to HIS holy land?
Am I worthy to be HIS guest?

But Allah is Merciful.
The door is always open for to seek HIS forgiveness.

"O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah . Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful."

[Surah Az-Zumar (The Troops) 39:53]

My sister once said, once you've been here, everything else is miscellaneous.

It was truly a blessing and I wouldn't change it for the world.

Fresh from the oven

I should be very busy at this time of the year. Being a houseman, dealing with sick people, angry consultants etc. But I decided to postpone my induction due to personal reason. For now, I'm glad of the choice I've made.

My family and I went to Saudi Arabia for 3 weeks and we just came back home earlier this month. It was truly a wonderful journey. We paid ayah a visit, stayed in our beautiful second home in Jeddah, and did our Umrah and Ziarah. Alhamdulillah. Everything went well. Although it was hard for me to bid farewell to Mecca, Madinah, ayah as well as our home, I had to do it, but praying that I will come back to this miraculous place again one day, Insya-Allah. I'll write as well as post pictures about our journey in my next post.

Oh, about the above pictures, I baked a few trays of chocolate chip cookies the other day and decided to snap some pictures. I got the recipe from a dear friend and it tastes as good as it looks, believe me. I've tried tons of chocolate chip cookies recipe from a few recipe books as well from the internet since I was in primary school, and this is by far one of the best recipe I've ever tried. Just leave a comment if you want the recipe, I'm more than happy to share :)

InsyaAllah, tomorrow I'll be leaving on a jetplane with my family, to Jeddah. Ayahhhh here we come! Hehee. When we are there, InsyaAllah, we will perform our Umrah.

To my dear friends, if you are reading this, I'm sorry for my wrongdoings. Kalau ada hutang apa-apa, minta dihalalkan for the time being. Kalau ada, please remind be to get back to you once I reached home, which will be on early July.

To my friends who are getting engaged/married, congratulations! I'm sorry I can't attend your engagement ceremony/reception. Happy for all of you! :)

Ya Allah, minta dipermudahkan perjalanan kami. Aminnnn.

Salam.

The End of Undergraduate Era

Friday, 21st May 2010.

[moment of silence]

Dean : Liyana....

[I raised my hand up high, high enough that it is impossible for him to miss me from the big crowd]

Dean : .......pass

I've been waiting for that very moment for 5 years. Tears of joy streamed down my face, and I wiped it with a sigh of relief. Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah. GOD is great.

------------------------------------------------------------

It all started when I got a phone call from my mother. She told me right before I had the chance to check the result from the UPU database myself. I got accepted to study medicine in UPM medical school, which was my first choice out of 7 other medical schools in Malaysia. Yes, UPM was my first choice. Why? I felt insecure. All I can think of was probably I have a higher chance of getting accepted to med school if I put UPM first rather than UM or UKM.

But I was wrong.

UPM has thousands of great things to offer other than being the country's leading university in tropical agriculture (ceewah macam nak promote pulak!)

My mother works as a Librarian in UPM since 1970s up till now. When I was little, I always refer UPM as the place where my mom work or where I go for my swimming classes (Yes, I took swimming classes in UPM when I was in primary school. LOL.) and Fardhu Ain classes. I never thought that I will end up in UPM as a student. To make things worst, I never knew that UPM offers a medical degree up until I was 18 years old! Hahaha!

Now, UPM, or FPSK to be exact, has been the reason for the person that I've become now. The wiser, sensible and Insyaallah, competent version of Liyana.

Yes, every person who uses PLUS KL-Seremban highway knows that UPM breeds big fat juicy cows, but what they don't know is UPM also produces hundreds of brilliant and capable doctors every single year since 2001! Okay, I know it is irrelevant to compare cows with doctors, but you have to agree with me on this, both doctors and cows are equally important for the survival of mankind. LOL.

------------------------------------------------------

I'm glad that I've met a lot of wonderful people during my 5 years in UPM. To my best friends for life: Fiz, Fieza, Ju and Eti. Thank you for always be there for me for five amazing years. We've been through thick and thin. I might not be the perfect friend, but I'm grateful that all of you accepted me for who I am, and I'm truly blessed. We might go our separate ways after this, but I will always remember each and every one of you as my sisters, dunia akhirat. =)

To all my classmates, thank you for helping me throughout these 5 years. I will keep those amazing memories with you guys deep in my heart. Good luck in your future undertakings! Hope all of us will be a safe and humble doctors, InsyaAllah. Do keep in touch!

To all dedicated UPM lecturers during both theory and clinical years, thank you for your time and effort. We won't be here today without your help!

To Mama, Ayah, Kak Long, Eman and Bean, thank you for being there for me 24/7. Thank you for cheering me up when I was down and keeping my spirits up!

Not to forget my grandparents, aunties, uncles, cousins...thank you for supporting me all these years. I am truly honored to be the first doctor in the family. Hope there will be more doctors to come!

Oh yes, Apis, the soulmate, twin-brotha (LOL) , boyfriend & best friend. We've been through a lot throughout these 5 years. You've been a great teacher, an awesome critique and a great listener. Thank you for keeping up with me for all these years. I'll wait for you in 2 years time!

Last but not least, to all the people who have helped me throughout these 5 years; patients, hospital staffs, UPM staffs, etc. , thank you. :)

Dr Liyana Bt Zainal Abidin, MD(UPM).
Pergh, macam tak percaya! :p

This is only the beginning of great years to come.

After five bloody years of hardship and suffering, now the real game has just begun.

.............but before that, MARI BUANG MASA SECARA BESAR-BESARAN!

LOL.

Wishlist : Camera bags!

It's that time of the year when your birthday is just approaching, the only thing that comes into your mind is receiving that pretty wrapped box, twirled with ribbons and together with it comes a neatly handwritten birthday card, reminding you that you have grown a year older. For me, April is that time of the year! So, to make things easier for you guys me, I've created a wishlist.

LOL. As always, I'm not expecting any present-lah. :P In reality, I will probably end up buying this stuff by myself. Hehe.

My GREATEST craving is : A brand new dslr camera bag! It has to be trendy, but most importantly, it has to look like an ordinary women handbag! I'm sick of carriying that big black dull Canon camera bag. The reason is because photography is my hobby. I'm not planning to be full-blown photog or anything near that field. Carrying that dull canon bag screams "Hey, look at me! I'm a poser!I have no idea how to use a dslr, I own one because everybody has one..". Come on lah. I despise those group of people who carries around dslr around their neck, acting like a real photog when the end result are just MySpace worthy shots. You know what I mean. LOL. Okay, back to the real topic. So, most of the time I will end up tossing my camera in my handbag. Most of my handbags are BIG and BULKY. Not that I didn't have a choice, but I prefer big handbags compared with small ones.

I've got a list of beautiful camera bags which I've came across in the internet. Here is it:

1. Epiphanie Bags

pictures courtesy of beyond-snapshots.com

I'm in LOOOOOOOOOOOOVEEEEEE with Epiphanie's Lola (red) camera bag! Ginger (brown) is nice too. But it costs MYR 530 / USD 169. :( I will die in starvation if I get my hands on this bag. *sigh*

2. Kelly Moore Bag

If only I have the money tskkk. These lovelies costs MYR 646/ USD 199.99. I can get two Canon 50 mm f/1.8 lenses with this amount of money! Kelly Moore's bags comes in purple, fuchsia, grey, brown, black, jade, and cranberry. Obviously, I'm torn between purple and fuchsia.

3. Janine King Designs

Funky isn't it? I love the designs. Simple yet stylish! And to make it sound more interesting, it costs MYR 194/ USD 59.99 only! Hahaha. I know it's still expensive, but compared to the previous two bags, there's a higher chance for me to own this baby.

If money is not a problem for me, I'll go for:

1. Epiphanie's Lola/Ginger
2. Janine King's camerabag
3. Kelly Moore's Purple bag

Oh, and hey, if you have come across other beautiful bags, do inform me. I'm keeping my options open for now. Yes, I am serious about buying one! Hehe.
